A Note on Terminology

What does “somatic” mean?

Somatic simply means “of the body.” Somatic work uses breath, sensation, movement, and awareness as pathways for emotional and nervous system healing. It is not therapy. It is not exercise. It is the practice of listening to what your body already knows — and giving it permission to release what it has been holding.

You do not need any prior experience with somatic work to attend REST 2 REBEL. Everything is guided. Everything is at your own pace.

Meet Danielle

“I have spent years feeding people in Jamaica. What took me longer to understand was that the most depleted person in the room was often me.”

As a Jamaican chef and plant-based culinary educator, I spent years teaching people to nourish their bodies — at cooking classes, at herbal wellness workshops, at community gatherings where the table was the medicine. I watched people leave lighter. More connected to themselves. More alive.

Somewhere in the building — the business, the students, the community that kept growing and needing — I stopped doing for myself what I was teaching others to do. The irony was not lost on me. It just took a while to act on it.

REST 2 REBEL is the retreat I wished existed. Not a wellness vacation. Not a spa weekend with yoga. A genuine return — to the body, to the land, to the self that has been buried beneath all the doing.

Jamaica is not backdrop here. The land carries ancestral memory. The plants have been healing people for centuries. The Coach House — an intimate, characterful converted stable in Trelawny Parish — is where I bring women to remember who they are beneath the busyness.
